When Scott Hall (Razor Ramon) and Kevin Nash (Diesel) took the money and ran from an ailing WWE to the then-thriving WCW in 1996 they left the copyright to their characters behind. It turned out they couldn't have been in less responsible hands. Vince McMahon chose to bring back the characters without the wrestlers that made their names. A classic bit of Vince "no-one's bigger than WWE" thinking. So Glenn Jacobs (Kane) was introduced as Diesel and Rick Bognar brought in as Razor. They were intended to be part of a storyline involving Jim Ross as a wantaway WWE employee. Of course it was terrible, obviously it was an insult to both the characters and their fans, and happily, they were pulled from TV almost immediately.
