12 Ups & 2 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (Apr 23)

3. A Rivalry Reprised

Bayley Charlotte Flair

Bayley vs. Charlotte Flair was a neat, tidy almost-banger between two wrestlers with great chemistry, who always seem to mesh well when bad writing doesn't get in the way of their work.

'The Hugger' began with fire. She shoved Charlotte to the mat after the exploratory opening exchanges and blasted back after having her hair grabbed, hitting Flair with a Stunner before booting her to the floor. Charlotte broke the ensuing control period with a Neckbreaker and attacked the knee a minute later, grinding Bayley down. Later, 'The Queen' tried to make the most of that weakened joint by applying the Figure Eight. She couldn't get it locked in before Bayley countered out. No matter, though: Charlotte nailed the babyface with a big spear, and that was that.

While there's a valid point to make about repetition in the long-running Becky vs. Charlotte feud, the outcome is fine for now. Those matches were rarely anything worse than "good," and Money In The Bank will likely be the same, even though 'The Man' is wrestling twice in a night. Bayley is better as a chaser, anyway. She should win the strap eventually, but it'd come off better at the end of a long build with plenty of obstacles to overcome.
