12 Ups & 2 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (Apr 23)

Ups...

12. Setting The Table

Last night's SmackDown was full of short, snappy backstage promos that pushed their respective storylines forward without delivering much that'll live long in the memory. Such skits are filler without being true filler. They serve a purpose, tick at least one box, and give the characters valuable airtime, and while this New Day/Big O bit sat on the lower end of the spectrum, it still worked.

It started with smiley happy Kofi Kingston saying all was right in the world, claiming that the "love, support, and magic" shown to him by the WWE Universe was growing every day. In came Xavier Woods and Kevin Owens, whom the New Day would continue filling in for Big E while he's out injured. Cue: banter, hip wiggles, and everything in-between.

This did a grand job of setting the table for the turn later in the evening.
