12 Ups And 15 Downs For WWE In 2017 (2nd Opinion)
5. Mishandling Jason Jordan
WWE spent weeks upon weeks building up a storyline where Raw GM Kurt Angle had a secret that could potentially ruin him, but with Corey Graves’ urging, he finally brought it to light: He had an illegitimate (storyline) son.
And then that son turned out to be Jason Jordan.
Rather than going with Chad Gable, who has been favorably compared to Angle, WWE opted to push Jordan into a role where he struggled for weeks to even sound convincing as a son when talking to Kurt. And then WWE continued to push him as a babyface trying to make good on his DNA, even when fans unloaded mercilessly on him.
It was epically bad, with the writers either ignorant of or unmoved by fans’ reactions. The result was almost tragically comical, with Jordan trying to be the virtuous babyface and getting booed out of the building. There were so many better ways to handle this, even after miscasting Jordan.
It seems like WWE had finally turned the corner with Jordan, casting him with some shades of gray recently, but his Raw Tag Team Championship win with Seth Rollins makes you wonder if WWE is giving it another go with Jason as a good guy rather than someone edging toward heeldom.
