2. Vince Russo
Vince Russo is one of the most notorious personalities in wrestling history. Sure, he was key in the development of the Attitude Era and some of that period's most enduring stories. At some point, though, he began believing his own hype...and so did World Championship Wrestling. In October of 1999, he departed the safety of Vince McMahon's promotion and ventured into the political minefield that was Ted Turner's billion dollar wrestling empire. It was a tumultuous first six months for Russo, who managed to make WCW programming worse than it was before he got there. Management found rather quickly that a lack of filter for Russo's ridiculous gimmicks and concepts led to nonsensical twists and pathetic excuses for matches. Character development went from being nonexistent to overwhelming. He was soon fired. Then rehired. Because WCW. They would regret that decision to bring Russo back when, at the 2000 Bash at the Beach pay-per-view, Russo booked a scenario in which he had Jeff Jarrett lie down for Hulk Hogan, giving the Hulkster a controversial victory. It was an angle agreed upon by all involved to that point but later in the night, Russo stomped toward the squared circle and proceeded to drop a pipebomb that ultimately landed him in legal trouble. He hurled profanities at Hogan, referring to him as a "piece of s***" and vowing that WCW fans would never see him again. He ranted and raved, echoing the sentiments of every internet smart mark around the country and, at the same time, setting himself up for a defamation lawsuit. But hey, he got to massage his own ego and cut one of those shoot promos all the cool kids thought was awesome, so there's that.
