12 WWE Monsters That Failed
4. Giant Gonzalez
Giving Jorge Gonzalez his second bite in the wrestling industry after 'El Gigante' was in like a lion and out like a lamb in WCW, WWE felt the giant Argentinian was ideal WrestleMania fodder for The Undertaker, but thought little beyond the first chapter.
His debut was sound enough, with the limited monster interrupting the 1993 Royal Rumble to administer the worst beating 'The Deadman' had suffered up to that point.
Despite a stupid outfit and Harvey Wippleman in tow, his size carried the gimmick over the line, especially when Gonzalez was matched against multiple jobbers in TV squash matches to prepare him for the 'Show of Shows'.
But the Undertaker match was a flop, standing out on even a bad card as weak theatre beyond 'Taker's usual giant-slaying affairs.
After a clunky disqualification finish in which the 8-footer attempted to chloroform The Undertaker into defeat, the two muddled on throughout the year (with previous entry Mr Hughes working the house shows) before an equally useless payoff at August's SummerSlam.
A hasty babyface turn did little for Gonzalez, who worked a handful of matches before his short contract expired in October.
