13 Things We Learned From Mick Foley On Stone Cold's WWE Network Podcast

10. Getting Rid Of His Accent & Building Character

Foley says one of the difficult obstacles he faced when first getting started in the business was losing his identifiable heavy New York accent. While working in Tennessee, booker and wrestler Robert "The Tennessee Stud" Fuller told him he was going to have to figure out a way to make it go away because it didn't jive with his character.

Mick says he would hit the streets at night, visiting the local roadhouse a mile away from the Sportatorium, where he met a young lady that he liked and soon found himself at a crossroads of having to decide if he should break kayfabe with her or not.

He reasoned that she wasn't attracted to Mick Foley, she wanted to be with Cactus Jack so he decided he wouldn't tell her, and she never really knew the difference between the two personas.

"It was great character building. Wasn't great, necessarily for building a quality relationship."
