13 Ups & 9 Downs For WWE In 2022

4. Dexter Lumis Vs The Miz

Did you actually watch it?

If you did, there are probably no words henceforth that can do a better job of articulating why this sucked than the (in)action itself, but let's give it a go because based on the complete silence that greeted the various matches that took place within the body of this lame story, it's believable that nobody invested at any point.

As later revealed to us by a Johnny Gargano exposition dump so lame that it had to be framed as intentionally so, a Dexter Lumis summer return was bankrolled by a Miz character looking to build on his wealth and influencer status by getting decked by a contract killer once a week. He risked the health and wellbeing of his family to put it over, abused Lumis' financial state (itself caused by a shoot WWE release earlier in the year), and got deeper in the sh*t when Gargano found out and held it over his head for weeks on end.

During this time, Miz defeated Gargano in a rubbish match and tried in vain to avoid fighting Dexter in a similarly shoddy showing until the inevitable match was greeted by silence and the literal murderer earned a job and a big bag of cash by virtue of his victory.

It's since resulted in 'The A-Lister' playing a down-on-his-luck Skint Baron Corbin knockoff, but it's not as though that's a shining justification for a terrible tale that actually kicked off - to timestamp this - when CM Punk was still an active wrestler in AEW. Maybe all the power players in wrestling are obsessed with stepping on their own d*cks?
