13 Ups And 23 Downs For WWE In 2020

15. Where’s Aleister?

If you follow NXT, you know one of the best superstars to come through that brand was Aleister Black. He had “can’t miss” written all over him.

So naturally, WWE didn’t just miss, they screwed him up so royally that he closed out 2020 having just five televised matches in the past six months – four of which were losses, and none since being drafted to SmackDown two months ago. (Oh, and the company fired his wife, Zelina Vega.)

Black actually started out 2020 strong, picking up several squash wins and even defeating Bobby Lashley at WrestleMania 36. But once Paul Heyman was deposed from Raw, it all went downhill. Aleister lost his cool entrance and theme, got “injured” by Seth Rollins and started wearing an eye bandage, and then lost a few matches to Kevin Owens before disappearing.

It’s yet another example of WWE being so incompetent that they have a unique, talented superstar and almost deliberately botch his booking before cutting him loose, saying, “he just didn’t have it” or “he wasn’t a good fit.”

Maddening.
