9. SmackDown Women’s Championship (2018): Carmella (c) Vs. Charlotte Flair Vs. Becky Lynch
This match isn’t significant for who was champ coming
in, what happened during the bout, or who came out of it as champion.
This is the match that was the genesis of The Man, Becky Lynch.
Carmella entered the match in the midst of a dismal run as champ, having cashed in her Money in the Bank briefcase four months earlier. Flair and Lynch were challenging for the title, but were still close friends. But it was Charlotte who hit Natural Selection on Becky while she was applying the Disarm-Her to Carmella, giving The Queen the title.
Afterward, Lynch went to congratulate Flair, only to turn on her and beat her mercilessly – and the crowd cheered her on. Becky would go on in future weeks to cut scathing promos as WWE tried to shoehorn her as a heel, but they eventually figured out that her anti-hero persona had completely caught on with fans.
Becky morphed into The Man, winning the SmackDown Women’s Championship and later famously leading a SmackDown women’s invasion of Raw, getting bloodied in the process. And the rest, as they say, is history.
But this is where it all started.
