OK, technically this isn’t an actual title change, but considering that a new champion was crowned as a result of last year’s SummerSlam main event, we’re gonna give it a little leeway.

After the 2016 brand split resulted in Dean Ambrose and the WWE World Championship being locked down on SmackDown, then-Raw GM Mick Foley and Commissioner Stephanie McMahon unveiled a new main title for the red brand: the WWE Universal Championship. A mini-tournament was held on Raw, resulting in Seth Rollins and Finn Balor challenging each other at the midsummer classic for the new title.

Despite dislocating his shoulder during the match, the Demon King won a great match to claim his first WWE world title. Unfortunately, he was forced to relinquish the title the next night due to injury. But for one night, it was a truly memorable moment.

Plus, it’s given Michael Cole a talking point to repeat ad nauseum every time Balor comes out to the ring.
