10 Most Memorable WWE Underdog Victories

3. Maven Defeats The Undertaker - SmackDown 2002

Maven Undertaker As the male winner of the first season of Tough Enough, it's fair to say that many wrestling fans assumed Maven Huffman would become a star in the business. He had a good "look", possessed natural charisma, and was improving in the ring. In the 2002 Royal Rumble, Maven appeared to be on the fast track to success when he actually eliminated The Undertaker. As one would expect, Taker didn't appreciate being eliminated by a rookie, so he got back in the ring and beat the hell out of Maven. The Rumble elimination was probably enough to include this on the list, but two weeks later, Maven actually pinned Taker to win the Hardcore Title on an episode of Smackdown. To keep the theme here going strong, it certainly wasn't an earned victory, with Taker dominating the match, only to be attacked by The Rock, who would hit him with a chair and lay him out with a Rock Bottom. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6sJlkaMgK8Q That's all it took for Maven to get the win, causing people to really think something special would be in his future. Once he left the Hardcore division two months later, he was back down to being nothing more than a jobber, losing to people like Hardcore Holly, Chavo Guerrero, and D-Von Dudley. Taker, of course, barely recovered from his embarrassing moments, struggling to move on with his career and only won 12 more matches at WrestleMania before losing to Brock Lesnar. What a jobber.
