14 Things We Learned From Eric Bischoff On Legends With JBL (Part 2)

13. He Thinks Bret Was 'Borderline Morose' In WCW

JBL says that the fallout of Montreal benefited WWE a lot more than it did WCW, as they got the red-hot Mr. McMahon character, whilst WCW got a performer who was still hurting from his WCW exit. Everyone agrees that Bret wasn't the same guy he was in WCW than he was in the WWE. Bischoff says he wanted Bret (and was willing to pay a substantial amount of money for his services) because they were given Thunder on Thursday night and he needed another big name to be the flagship of that show since he was already spreading the talent roster thin between Nitro, syndicated shows and house shows. Did WCW inherit a Bret that was emotionally scarred and unmotivated? 'It was both of those things and probably more', answers Bischoff. Bret in WCW was a shell of the Bret that people knew in WWE. Bischoff says he could tell something was off when he watched Bret interacting with his peers backstage and calls him 'borderline morose'.
