14 Ups & 1 Down From AEW Dynamite (Aug 22)
Downs...
1. Mimosa Mulch
An Orange Cassidy in-ring promo was advertised for last night's show, though 'Freshly Squeezed' couldn't utter a word before 'Judas' hit the sound system and Chris Jericho arrived on the ramp.
Clutching a bottle of bubbly, 'Le Champion' put Cassidy over, saying he felt embarrassed but was proud of what Orange had done. It proved Cassidy had learned something from him but at 1-1, they needed a rubber bout. Cue: the Mimosa Mayhem match reveal.
Cassidy and Jericho will wrestle one more time at All Out, with the stipulation dictating a win can be achieved via pinfall, submission, or by throwing the opponent into an 80-gallon pool of mimosa. Revealed via elaborate video package, the match was quickly accepted by Cassidy before he and Best Friends were beaten down by a swarming Inner Circle, who practically drowned Orange in bubbles to close.
The stipulation will get its chance on the night - this column isn't about trashing things without giving them a chance - but the announcement segment? Tame. Jericho didn't bring his A-game on the mic, tripping over a few words, and while Cassidy's dousing was a strong visual to close on, this lacked the dynamism of AEW's most effective angles. Pivoting back to comedy after levelling up with the Jericho win feels a weird move for 'Freshly Squeezed,' too.
