14 Ups & 2 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (Mar 19)

9. Classic Vince

VINCE MCMAHON
WWE

Vince McMahon is heeling it up something fierce these days, and it continued again last night, as the WWE Chairman appeared after the apparent conclusion of Kofi Kingston's gauntlet match to screw the victorious New Day man out of his WrestleMania 35 opportunity.

It was textbook Vince. He stood on the stage as Kingston and his boys celebrated, congratulating the former Intercontinental Champion on his victory. Then came the bomb: "Kofi, you are going to WrestleMania... if you can beat one last opponent," and out came Daniel Bryan, whose victory was all but assured.

McMahon family fatigue is a real problem, but what's the issue if Vince is using his considerable performance skills to put heat on an engaging storyline between two full-time performers? This is exactly how he should be used. He isn't hogging the spotlight, but enhancing Kingston's sympathy and Bryan's villainy at the same time, all for the betterment of a major WrestleMania programme. It's classic, classic stuff.
