14 Wrestling Gimmicks Blatantly Stolen From Hollywood
1. Jason The Terrible, Leatherface & Freddy Krueger - All The Horror Movie Franchises
Japan loves horror movies, and you know what they love more than horror movies? Not giving a s*** about copyright laws.
There are a ton of people who have wrestled as horror movie characters in Japan, the two most egregious examples of which are probably a direct copy of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre's Leatherface (played by an 80s WWE wrestler you probably don't remember, Michael Kirchner), and Doug Gilbert's Freddy Krueger, of course, from the A Nightmare on Elm Street series. Japan being Japan, they even had the two wrestle one another once.
The U.S. isn't blameless either, though: Karl Moffat had a run in Stampede Wrestling as Jason the Terrible, a man who wore white overalls and, you guessed it, a hockey mask extremely similar to Jason Voorhees'. He even had a feud with a young Owen Hart, and they probably only got away with it legally because the name was different.
Are there any other wrestlers who owe their livelihoods to the movies? Shout them out in the comments!
