12. Kurt Angle
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3kusCKMd40 Kurt Angle absolutely could have been a big contender in the UFC, if he had signed with them in 1998. Instead he went to the WWF, where he became one of the finest pro wrestlers of his generation. Once MMA started booming in the mid 2000's, Kurt got the lust to try and compete. There was now money in the sport, and most of all there was glory. His old competitive spirit came to the fore. He was an Olympic gold medallist, so of course he could have done well. Takedowns followed by ground and pound was key to Tito Ortiz's UFC championship rise in the early 2000's. Angle had that same (if not better) wrestling ability. Certainly in his nineties heyday, Kurt had the strength and power that could've held any UFC competitor down. But by the mid 2000's he was physically worn out. UFC President Dana White did talk to Kurt about coming in, and he was going to put the Olympian on The Ultimate Fighter in 2010. A deal was worked out, only for Angle to fail the medicals. Can you imagine how well an Angle versus Lesnar UFC match would have drawn? Both White and Angle lost out big time on this one.
