6. WrestleMania 29, 1,048,000 Buys
Doing The Rock vs John Cena again as a WrestleMania main event was something WWE couldn't resist, but the law of diminishing returns was in effect, they did about 200,00 less buys than the previous year where Rock and Cena had been given a year build up as 'Once in a lifetime.' Just over a million buys had to be satisfying for the company but they perhaps hoped to have done better. Certainly anything less than a million for a PPV headlined by The Rock would have been a disappointment. The event suffered from the company not being in line with fan wants, Cena vs Rock 2 just didn't hold the same appeal a second time around. Triple H vs Brock Lesnar was another example of the company not getting it right, we had seen the match at SummerSlam, it wasn't all that interesting. CM Punk vs The Undertaker was a great match but was only put into a promotional drive late due to Taker's fitness being a question mark. The rest of the card was pretty average but this show will always be remarkable for being the final WrestleMania on the traditional PPV format.
