15 Bizarre Wrestling Gimmicks You Won't Believe Happened More Than Once

6. Race Car Dude

Lots of fans know that Bob Holly broke into WWE as "Sparky" Thurman Plugg, one of Vince McMahon's infamous punny occupational gimmicks. He was a friendly NASCAR driver, and therefore had checkered flags on his tights. That's about as far as it went, because the company was in a downward spiral and McMahon wasn't about to bankrupt himself by renting a stock car so Bob fargin Holly could drive it onto the set of Superstars to get pinned by Jeff Jarrett. You'd think that others might learn from WWE's example, but there are those in the wrestling business incapable of learning. Perhaps that's why TNA (of course) once attempted to create a whole spinoff promotion of race car wrestlers: ALL WHEELS WRESTLING.
Yes, the TNA brain trust was at one time developing a "unique hybrid of pro wrestling and motorsports," featuring Jay Lethal dressed up like a star-spangled Power Ranger. This from the company that habitually fails to promote, you know, wrestling.
