15 Days That Will Haunt Vince McMahon Forever

14. June 28, 1998: Mankind's Fall Through The Cell

This was arguably one of WWE€™s most famous moments of all time€and is one that might be haunting Vince forever for how close it was to disaster At King of the Ring 1998, The Undertaker faced Mankind at the third ever Hell in a Cell match. Within a few minutes of starting, Undertaker threw Mankind off of the top of the cell through the announcer€™s table. Mick Foley fell a total of 22 feet, but this was a planned spot. What wasn€™t planned was the second spot, when Undertaker Chokeslammed Foley through the top of the cell. It wasn€™t supposed to break, and Foley hit the mat really hard, to the point that Jerry Lawler ominously said on commentary, €˜that€™s it, he€™s dead€™. The commentators, like many of those who witnessed the match, legitimately thought that Foley was dead, including the Undertaker. This night will haunt Vince because not only did he cause another human being severe permanent damage to his body, but the standard was raised so high after this match for violence and high spots that many others tried to go as far as possible in terms of violence and brutality without directly copying this move. It wouldn€™t be surprising, therefore, for Vince to hear JR screaming €˜Good God Almighty! They€™ve killed him!€™ as he tries to sleep.
