13. The Hurricane

Some wrestling gimmicks really shouldn't work, but the commitment and talent of the people involved make it succeed regardless. The Hurricane character, portrayed by Gregory Helms, got over because of his efforts and natural charisma.

Entering WWE as a generic cruiserweight, it wasn't long before Helms was repackaged as a delusional superhero who thought himself capable of vanquishing all-comers and superhuman feats. The character was a tongue-in-cheek twist on one of Helms' favourite comic book heroes the Green Lantern, and his passion for superheroes is obvious, as he proved even corny material can work in the right hands.

While The Hurricane's attempt to double chokeslam Stone Cold and Triple H at the 2002 Royal Rumble lives long in the memory, it was his short feud with The Rock that proved Helms had the prowess to hang with the best in the business.
