15 Greatest Jim Johnston WWE Themes

5. Hakushi - "Angel"

Hakushi was originally conceived as a sort of white yang to Undertaker's black yin, and not just because he's Asian and WWE were incapable of thinking beyond racial stereotypes ("Japanese, Chinese, close enough eh?"). Naturally then, the theme of the 'Modern Day Kamikaze' (OK, scratch that last point) shared a lot of similarities with his dark doppelganger, from the sweeping mournful melody to the pant-wetting thunderstrikes. It's evocatively beautiful.

Given that Hakushi was painted head to toe in shakyo and presented as an archetypal Buddhist monk (albeit, an evil one), it's frankly astonishing he didn't have a typical shamisen affair like every other Japanese wrestler in WWE ever. In fact, it's even a little Sicilian in flavour - maybe Jim Johnston got Tom Brandi's tape mixed up?

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
