15 Greatest Jim Johnston WWE Themes

11. Mankind - "Schizophrenic/Ode To Freud"

Forget the lovable shirt-tails and tie version of the masked mauler; Mankind's original theme is where it's at.

Or should that be themes? Uniquely, Mankind had separate music for his entrance and exit, each directly contrasting one another so as to mirror the character's conflict between torment and tranquility.

The entrance theme, a vague play on Howard Shore's disquieting score for The Silence of the Lambs, carries the weight of a lifetime of agony, and the anger that comes with it. The exit music is the total opposite. A loose cross between Bach's famous Prelude in C and Chopin's delicate Nocturne No.2 in Eb, a solo piano peacefully plays out Mrs. Foley's Baby Boy. It's a reflection of his calmed mind in the wake of victory, yet there remains an inescapable undercurrent of melancholy. And people say 1995 WWE was trite.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
