This moment was so shocking, it was prognosticated by Vince McMahon earlier in the night, who told Michael Cole, "You want shocking? Tonight, you're going to get shocking!" At the time, it would seem he was referring to his match with his son, Shane. However, he was referring to something else entirely. Vince McMahon came out during the WWF Championship match between The Rock and Steve Austin, and helped Austin, his worst enemy, win the championship. The shock of Austin joining up with McMahon has lost a bit of its luster 15 years later, with the benefit of hindsight and seeing how the ill-fated InVasion angle ate up most of Austins fantastic heel turn. But at the time, you had Austin and McMahon, the two sides of the greatest rivalry in professional wrestling, a rivalry which single-handedly turned the tide in the Monday Night Wars, teaming up in the main event of WrestleMania. It was a shocking end to the best Wrestlemania (and Pay Per View) of all time.
