15 Times Stone Cold Steve Austin's Ego Ran Wild In WWE

14. Finishing The Owen Hart SummerSlam Match

Put yourself in this scene, you've just had your body temporarily paralysed and are flat out in the wrestling ring in the worst pain of your life. What's your biggest concern, finishing the match, or making sure you won't be in a wheelchair for the rest of your life? Austin was in this position at SummerSlam 1997, when Owen Hart botched a piledriver. The impact crushed The Rattlesnake's head and neck up into his shoulders, causing him to temporarily lose feeling and then leaving him in intense burning pain. Austin should have called it instantly, informing the ref of the severity of the situation. The match should just have been stopped. But Austin's ego wasn't going to allow that, especially not with a stipulation in which if he lost he'd have to kiss Hart's ass. But none of that should have mattered. His health should have been the only concern. Instead, he rolled Hart up in the ugliest pin ever seen, winning the match and risking aggravating his injury further. He was never the same again and would end up retired less than six years later.
