16 Purest Babyfaces In Wrestling History

9. Bruno Sammartino

Bruno Sammartino was the original 'Face That Ran the Place', a consummate babyface who reigned as WWE champion for a combined 11 years. Starting out his life as a sickly boy fleeing Nazi occupation, Bruno emigrated to the United States and became a self-made, all-natural colossus. His humble origins and immigrant status made him an almost revered figure to WWE's heavily ethnic fanbase.

Bruno was always humble and altruistic and never instigated conflict, but he could be moved to great anger by injustice and betrayal. The normally genial Sammartino could go nuclear, like when dealing with his traitorous protege Larry Zbyszko or when learning that Randy Savage was happy about the career-threatening consequences of his attack on Ricky Steamboat's larynx.
