16 Thing We Learned From Kevin Owens On Talk Is Jericho

6. Beginner Training

Kevin says he enjoyed training at NXT because from 2005 until 2014 he'd never been in a ring to train, he'd just been wrestling every weekend, so he really started appreciating that aspect for the first time in years. He mentions that he was signed at around the same time as Finn Balor and Hideo Itami and how the three of them had gone from being the focal points of three different promotions but were treated like everyone else there with no favoritism. The rule was for the first month anyone was there sat out and watched, so at one point you had these three highly experienced workers sitting ringside watching true rookies practice bumps. While he appreciated it, he was itching to get back in the ring and his time was actually cut short by about a week. He started at the performance center on August 25th and didn't have his first match until December 11th. He spent that time training, attending live events, setting up the ring, and all the undertaking all the same tasks as the other trainees.
