16 Thing We Learned From Kevin Owens On Talk Is Jericho

12. Joining WWE

Owens says he was told on May 12th, 2014 that he was officially being hired pending a physical, and then moved from Montreal in August. He said he'd always wanted to make it to the promotion but had never had any contact with them until he ran into William Regal at a Pro Wrestling Guerilla show the year prior. Owens viewed this as his sole opportunity to make it to the WWE, and he felt like the fact that they'd already signed Sami Zayn and were pushing Daniel Bryan, the timing was right. He had a match with Johnny Gargano and afterwards he asked Regal for his advice, where the British legend complimented him. A few days later he received a message from someone at the performance center saying that Regal had asked them to reach out to him and they wanted to know if he'd be willing to come in for a tryout. Owens said he had no problem doing so, and once the scheduling allowed he came in for his shot, with Ring of Honor being gracious and cooperative event though he was under contract.
