14. Coming To America

Regal had his first few matches in 1983, when he was 17 years old. For the first 18 months he only worked with the same two guys and wasn€™t really getting anywhere, but says that eventually he started receiving opportunities and credits a lot of it to the fact that he€™s 6€™3€. He talks about how many other countries loved bringing in English guys who could wrestle long, believable matches with their stars and give their promotions credibility. He landed a break working on The World of Sports shows, which was a big deal for an English wrestler, but he quit after three months. He saw his peers like Dave Taylor getting opportunities to travel the world and visit exotic locations through wrestling and knew that he wanted those same chances.
