16 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Double Or Nothing 2019
3. Dream Tag Match Delivers
The Young Bucks were always going to give their long-awaited bout with The Lucha Brothers significant time after what went down at ALL IN last year. Major timing issues meant their main event bout was trimmed to just a fraction of its original runtime. They delivered the goods regardless, but it was a curtailed version of what could have been an all-time great spotfest, but Double Or Nothing gave them the chance to rectify it.
They did so with aplomb. This was an excellent, excellent bout, and far from a one-note acrobatics display.
That isn't to say the clash wasn't crammed with giffable moments. It most certainly was, and the bulk of them came from the outstanding Rey Fenix. Still, the bout started at a much slower pace than many would have expected, before unraveling with big bombs and a quickening pace as the clock ticked away, creating one of the most impressive tag contests 2019 has seen so far.
Matt and Nick Jackson successfully defended their AAA Tag Team Championships by isolating Fenix, nailing him with the Meltzer Driver for the pin. Quality-wise, this could easily have main-evented Double Or Nothing. That it didn't is understandable, but these guys will headline future shows, and the rivalry should continue through summer.
