16 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Double Or Nothing 2019

15. Commentary: Better Than Expected

The commentary situation was a worry heading into Double Or Nothing. PWG's Excalibur is excellent at all aspects of the game, but there was no telling how he'd mesh with two brand new partners, given that he usually calls his home promotion's matches alone. Common opinion was that the game had passed Jim Ross by - an argument with merit. Alex Marvez, meanwhile, had no pro-wrestling announcing experience at all.

Fortunately, we can safely say that this new team over-delivered. Marvez was the least impressive of the trio. That's to be expected, though. He's an experienced sportscaster, but he has never had a gig like this before. He'll improve as he goes along.

Ross and Excalibur struggled for chemistry early on, with JR audibly noting that he'd "lost his place" at one point. By the end, they were starting to sound like a well-oiiled partnership, and Ross was in vintage form throughout the Jon Moxley angle, screaming "MOXLEY AND OMEGA! MOXLEY AND OMEGA!" like the legendary play-by-play guy of old.

It's hard to read too much from their first night together, but this trio might just work.
