17 Things We Learned From AJ Styles On Talk Is Jericho

12. Hiding Out The Day Of The Rumble

Jericho asks where Styles was hidden away prior to the start of the Royal Rumble and he says he was hiding out in the bus. WWE didn't even have him fly into Orlando because they didn't want to take the chance on him being spotted at the airport so they had a car pick him up in Tampa and drive him to the arena. They had him lay down in the backseat until they could get him out of the car and into one of the trailers where he met a couple of people. Chris talks about how remarkable it was that it didn't leak beforehand. (Really, Chris? Are you sure about that?) AJ says that's a credit to the boys in the back who knew he was there but didn't spoil the surprise, pointing out that a lot of guys in the business aren't able to keep secrets. Styles does acknowledge the speculation that he would be there but thinks that sliver of doubt is a great thing, and the two men talk about how important surprises like that are for wrestling. AJ says he even had to kayfabe his kids because he knew they'd tell their friends, and that's exactly what happened when his 10-year old son told his best friend at school. His son then had to turn around and go back the next day and tell the kid he was lying to protect his father's secret. That's dedication, folks.
