17 Things We Learned From Eric Bischoff On Legends With JBL (Part 1)
6. Stealing Stars And Missing Stars
JBL brings up a quote from Arn Anderson (whom he acknowledges has pre-existing heat with Bischoff from years ago) that Bischoff 'couldn't make stars he could only steal stars'. JBL then reels off the list of guys whom Bischoff had under contract in WCW, such as Triple H, Mick Foley and Steve Austin, only to let them go and have them go on to become huge stars for the competition. Layfield straight-up asks Bischoff if his strength was in bringing in guys who were already stars rather than organically creating them. Bischoff says it's a fair question in some respects, but it's not. He says that, other than Goldberg and a small handful of others, he didn't organically create stars that nobody had heard of before. But he also says that guys like Nash and Hall were already 'stars' before they came to WWE and, while they certainly became bigger stars in WWE, he gave them fresh characters and helped to change the business. He said Triple H was a journeyman when he came to WCW, not the Triple H of the last fifteen years. On Mick Foley, he says that he was determined to do damage to himself, putting himself, the audience and the company at-risk. He didn't let him go because he didn't see potential in him, but because he was a 'financial liability' and a 'litigation nightmare'.
