17 Things We Learned From Eric Bischoff On Legends With JBL (Part 1)

2. He Never Thought That WWE Would Lose TV Because They Went Too Far

The two men then move on to a discussion of WWE embracing 'attitude' and all the racy stuff they did at the time, including the Brian Pillman gun angle and un-PC characters like The Godfather and Goldust. JBL asks Bischoff is he ever thought WWE would lose their TV because they pushed things too far and Bischoff quickly answers that no, he didn't. Bischoff notes how different the television atmosphere was back then and how things are so politically correct now, even in cable. He said in the 90s, cable was like the wild west and you could pretty much get away with anything. He said that he thought WWE's falling ratings might get them pulled but he never worried about their content. Bischoff didn't even know that there was a 'Standards and Practices' department within Turner Broadcasting until he was working on a monologue with Jay Leno and somebody told him it was too risqué.
