17 Things We Learned From Eric Bischoff On Legends With JBL (Part 1)
16. WWE Tryout And Alternate Histories
JBL mused that the history of sports entertainment could have been very different, and that the Attitude Era might not have existed, had Bischoff gotten a job with WWE when he tried out as an announcer/interviewer in 1990. They then showed clips of Bischoff being instructed by Vince to sell the viewers a broom which, while shown on other programmes, remains a fascinating piece of archive footage. Bischoff agrees, saying that a number of things would have been different while also mentioning that this is the first time he has actually been in Stamford in a number of years. Bischoff reflects on his tryout and how much he enjoyed staying at a Marriott Hotel and having a limo come pick him up. He says that he 'desperately needed that job but simply wasn't ready for it' which is an honest appraisal of his ability at the time. He wanted the job but knew he was green and that he was an outside shot. He didn't get the job, of course.
