17 Things We Learned From Eric Bischoff On Legends With JBL (Part 1)
14. Vince 'Killing The Business' In The 1980s
Bischoff was working for the AWA when he was thrown into the role of interviewer, pretty much against his will. He had no real desire to do it but they needed a guy and he was there. By his own admission he wasn't very good. Bischoff mentions how it was only supposed to be a short-term gig but they kept hiring guys who were even worse than he was, so he basically won the role by attrition. JBL segways from that to talking about the perception of Vince in the 80s. Layfeild said that when he was working in Texas and in Europe and the perception was that Vince was 'killing the business' and wonders if Verne Gagne held the same opinion. Bischoff says that Verne did and that Bischoff did as well because he was so close to Verne and his opinion meant a lot to him. He said that he took Verne's word as 'gospel' and that he heard a lot of negative things about Vince but that he (obviously) doesn't feel them himself anymore having got to know and work with Vince over the years. JBL says that Vince wasn't killing 'the business' but was killing 'their business'.
