17 Things We Learned From The Dudley Boyz On Talk Is Jericho
13. The Origin Of The Dudleys Gimmick
Jericho asks if either guy was one of the original Dudleys, and neither man was. The first three Dudleys were Snot, Big Dick and Dudley Dudley. Jericho adds that he used to live with Snot in Tennessee when he worked for Smoky Mountain Wrestling. The story behind the gimmick was that Big Daddy Dudley was a journeyman wrestler who impregnated groupies all around the country and they all grew up to become wrestlers themselves. Jericho says it sounds like one of Raven's ideas and Bubba confirms that it was a Raven gimmick. The family was based on the Hansen brothers from the movie Slapshot; imbeciles outside of the ring but all business inside. Other Dudleys who appeared before Bubba and D-Von were Sign Guy and Dances With. Bubba was meant to be a skinhead but they realized he looked more like a backwoods hick so they cast him as such. D-Von was meant to be an urban Dudley based upon Samuel L. Jackson from Pulp Fiction. Paul Heyman suggested the gimmick and D-Von said it worked out because both of his parents were reverends, and he combined Mr. T and Samuel L. Jackson and got his character.
