17. The Y2K Thing Was 14 Years Ago Yet He's Still Y2J
WWE.comIt would be interesting to ask a kid that's in his or her teens right now that chants "Y2J" for Jericho to find out if they actually know what Y2J even means. It was a take off of the Y2K bug that everybody was talking about towards the end of 1999. Here's the
Encyclopedia Brittanica explanation of what the Y2K bug was: A problem in the coding of computerized systems that was projected to create havoc in computers and computer networks around the world at the beginning of the year 2000 (in metric measurements K stands for thousand). After more than a year of international alarm, feverish preparations, and programming corrections, few major failures occurred in the transition from December 31, 1999, to January 1, 2000. Basically, everybody was worried that computers would shut down on January 1, 2000 due to the start of the 2000s. Jericho capitalized on it by using the Y2J nickname and saying people would be having a Y2J problem instead of a Y2K problem. It fit then, but it's just weird now. It's kind of like how Shawn Michaels will always be the "Heartbreak Kid" even though as a nearly 50 year old he's hardly a kid anymore. Wrestling nicknames can sometimes last forever. Y2J is proof of that.
