9. June - Okada And Omega Do It Again

Okada Omega Dominion
NJPW

Kazuchika Okada and Kenny Omega's phenomenal Wrestle Kingdom tie shattered Dave Meltzer's star rating scale in January. The June sequel in Osaka broke those pieces up even further.

The match, taking place at NJPW's Dominion event, earned one quarter of a snowflake more than the unprecedented six-star showing at the turn of the year. The astonishing rating meant that for the second time in the space of six months, the pair had redefined the greatest match in the sport's history - at least in the eyes of the esteemed journalist.

Though few could question the quality of the pair's technical masterclass, social media was yet again soon up in arms about the system-breaking score, with that apparent New Japan bias once more the source of contention. You know what they say opinions are like - and Twitter is full of 'em.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
