18 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Shawn Michaels

In early 2006, Shawn Michaels began to find himself at odds with Vince and Shane McMahon. The two men used a distraction to eliminate Michaels from the Royal Rumble match, and after that point, Vince began pressuring HBK to retire. The McMahons kept making Michaels's life hard, throwing him in handicap matches with The Spirit Squad and tormenting his returned partner, Marty Jannetty.

At WrestleMania 22, Michaels and Vince clashed in a surprisingly good no disqualification match. Michaels won, fending off interference from Shane and The Spirit Squad, and McMahon had to be taken out on a stretcher. That wasn't the end of the program, though.

After WrestleMania, McMahon announced that there would be a tag team rematch between the two. Vince would team with Shane, while the ultra-religious Michaels would be "teaming" with God. The bout was designed to both set up a handicap match and belittle Michaels, and it worked, with Vince and Shane scoring victory and "God," who was portrayed by a spotlight, not delivering the miracle Michaels needed for the win.

Needless to say, the whole thing was silly and is remembered as one of WWE's more inane storylines.
