MMA is about legitimacy, it needs to be treated seriously as a sport. Now, Punk's value is all about his name. He owns the rights to 'CM Punk', because it was his trademark before he worked for WWE. Most of the time, WWE own wrestler names. Not in this case. The thing is, UFC need to exploit that name value to tempt viewers in, but they don't want to disillusion their already loyal fanbase. MMA fans hate the fake nature of pro wrestling. Someone fighting with a character name is a big no-no. So what is likely to happen for Punk's first fight, is that he'll be marketed as Phil "CM Punk" Brooks, just as he was at UFC 181 when interviewed. Depending on your point of view, you can then either call him Punk or Brooks. As for what Punk wants, he implied to MMA journalist Ariel Helwani that he wants to use the CM Punk name.
