Breaking up is hard to do. It's even harder when you're two public figures in a company that doesn't handle domestic drama very well. Matt Hardy will be the first to tell you that.

For many years, Matt Hardy and Lita dated, but by the mid-2000s, they began to grow apart. Lita eventually developed feelings for Adam "Edge" Copeland, and an affair ensued. When Matt found out about this, he was reasonably upset. As an avid internet user at the time, Matt expressed his grievances about Lita and Edge's dalliances online. WWE weren't too keen on a superstar openly talking about the affair of two other superstars, and they fired him.

Naturally, fans weren't too happy about longtime favorite Matt Hardy getting fired because his girlfriend cheated on him, while Lita and Edge faced no professional repercussions for their actions. Granted, this was all a personal matter, but the point is: WWE did Matt dirty, and the fans let them know this. Online petitions were drafted demanding Matt's re-signing, and fans chanted on television "You screwed Matt" to express their frustration.

Hardy was brought back in just a few months, but this incident remains a shining example of WWE being completely tone-deaf to a situation and firing someone they shouldn't have.
