19 Nastiest WWE Breakups
6. Vince Russo
I know this may shock you, as most everyone knows Vince Russo to be a saint, but in 1999, he left WWE in a really unprofessional manner!
In fairness to the King of Bros (no, not Matt Riddle), it's not as though Russo had no reason to leave the company. By 1999, he and Ed Ferrara were the head writers for the company and making fairly decent money. However, in September, SmackDown debuted, and instead of hiring more staff to take on the load, WWE had Russo and Ferrara write it in addition to RAW. Now, in a just world, Russo would get greater compensation for this extra labor. Instead, he was paid the same amount to do twice the work.
Russo, unhappy with this arrangement and unable to be at home, asked Vince McMahon for a raise so that his wife and children could move to Indiana to be with their family. McMahon, ever the sympathetic boss, told Russo he was paying him enough to just hire a nanny.
Soon after that, WCW came calling, offering Russo the job of head writer that came with a huge guaranteed contract. Jumping at the opportunity, Russo took Ferrara with him, but instead of giving notice to the company that made him famous, he jumped in the dead of night while WWE were overseas.
It was a move so unpopular, it spawned that Jim Cornette interview (warning: language)
