Sandra says that largely due to the grief that both Chris and Nancy were struggling with, the two had turned to self-medicating through drugs and alcohol. She admits that her sister was no saint and says she’s always been open and honest about her issues, but in the last year or so their abuse had gotten very intense.

She calls it "really next level, especially after Eddie. And I know that, because I was in that house and I saw it." She says it wasn't a secret, and says being around the business as long as she has she's well aware that it's an unspoken truth about the business that many of the performers self-medicated.

However, it had gotten to the point where Chris developed what she called "Judy Garland syndrome" because he was so out of it. She understands, because she sank into that same abyss while struggling with the grief of what happened.

She considers it to be a huge contributing factor to what happened.
