19 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Shawn Michaels

3. He Threatened To Quit After Fight With Bret Hart

The backstage fight between Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart in June of 1997 in Hartford was a huge thing because any time two top guys get into a legit battle it's something you have to worry about. Many people have told the story over the years, but nobody does it like Jim Cornette. He spoke about how Bret had yanked out a handful of Shawn's hair and was carrying it around the locker room. Cornette admitted that he took the hair home! During the whole altercation, Michaels famously threatened to quit the company. Obviously that didn't happen, but for him to be so mad that he seriously thought about doing it was a major concern for WWE at the time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l03wbw66-yE In addition to threatening to quit due to the "unsafe working conditions" that he felt existed in WWE, Michaels also made it a point to say he wasn't going to ever lose to Bret. That was something that really infuriated Hart and was a big reason why Hart felt he couldn't trust Michaels later in 1997 when it was time for their Survivor Series match. At least Michaels was right about something. He never did put Bret over after their fight.
