2 Ups & 6 Downs From WWE NXT UK (10 June)

4. It's Certainly A SUBCULTURE Promo

What was the genuine point of the latest SUBCULTURE vignette?

It achieved literally nothing, aside from confirming next week’s inevitable clash, pitting SUBCULTURE members Flash Morgan Webster and Dani Luna against Joseph Conners and Jinny. That could have been done via simple match graphic, and it would have had the same effect as this vignette.

Joined by Mark Andrews, Webster and Luna ridiculed Conners and Jinny for simply thinking differently than they did. That’s precisely WWE’s issue when it comes to creating these sorts of characters; WWE’s creative team always assumes that to get someone like Dani Luna over, they have to take issue with everyone just because they don’t have the same lifestyle as she does. That doesn’t make one unique. It makes them a tedious, tiresome personality.

Surprisingly, it did get worse. Mark Andrews ended the vignette with the group’s apparent new motto – start from the bottom, fight to the top. He and Webster are literally former NXT UK Tag Team Champions. They haven’t been held back. They just fell down the pecking order because their whole character is high-flying wrestler with somewhat flashy gear, a.k.a the majority of the NXT UK roster.
