2 Ups & 7 Downs From WWE SmackDown (Feb 4)

1. Where’s The Threat?

Roman Reigns Goldberg Paul Heyman

Even the biggest Goldberg mark must admit that this is puzzling.

Roman Reigns will fight Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 38. It's still up in the air whether that match will be for the Universal Title solo or a 'Champ vs. Champ' match (if Lesnar regains the WWE Title at Elimination Chamber). One thing is known: Goldberg ain't beating Roman on 19 February.

This match is only happening because Saudi royalty loves watching Goldberg do his thing. That's it. There's zero threat of the ex-WCW hero walking away with the Universal strap, and that makes the match WWE has waited two years to book an uninspiring speed bump on Roman's road to Dallas.

Paul Heyman and Reigns himself can act shocked all they like - this is a 'C' level challenge for a 'B' level pay-per-view. That sucks to admit when you're a big Goldberg fan, but it's undeniably true. Big Bill isn't the threat WWE are portraying him as.
