2 WWE Stars Say They Get To "Write Their Own Promos"
These major WWE stars have "trust" and "equity" to script their own lines.
Becky Lynch says she and Seth Rollins have built "enough trust" with WWE that the company feels comfortable letting them write their own promos.
Lynch told Brian Gewirtz on Instagram Live that they have "equity" backstage due to years of delivering time and time again on the mic. That's why the current regime leans back on over-scripting their televised speeches - Becks added that WWE's creative team does stipulate "lines that you have to hit", but they don't over-egg it with either performer these days.
This appears to have been going on for a while too. Although Vince McMahon's retirement likely loosened some creative restrictions, Lynch and Rollins had more freedom than most before the old boss shockingly called it a day in July.
Becky did call the promo process a "collaborative" one, but she's delighted to do her own thing on episodes of Raw without having to answer too many questions about why she's saying certain things. That must feel like a breath of fresh air compared to her earliest days in the promotion.
WWE's prior need to painstakingly script things word-for-word stifled creativity, to say the least.
