Watching the Royal Rumble today, it’s hard to believe that such creative teased eliminations weren’t the norm a decade ago. The game to see what kind of crazy ways to avoid getting eliminated really got kick-started in 2011 with John Morrison.

During the Rumble, William Regal knocked Morrison off the ring apron all the way to the barricade… but Morrison somehow stuck to the barricade wall and managed to keep his feet from touching the floor. He then climbed onto the wall, tight-roped along it and jumped to the ring steps to stay in the match.

It was an extremely clever way to exploit the Rumble’s “both feet must touch the floor” rule beyond Shawn Michaels’ one-foot hot potato dance in 1995. Today, fans look forward to seeing what innovative spot someone is going to break out to avoid elimination.
