20 Best Matches In WCW History

9. The Steiner Brothers vs. Sting & Lex Luger (SuperBrawl 1)

Without question, World Championship Wrestling €“ dating back to the days when it was still just a banner for the National Wrestling Alliance €“ knew the full extent of the value for tag team wrestling. WWE, historically, has seemed to realize that tag teams can draw at the top of the card for approximately 7% of its modern existence. WCW had tag team matches in semi-headlining position on some of the most important cards of all-time. Take, for instance, their attempt to directly parallel the NFL€™s Super Bowl with wrestling€™s Super Brawl. Though it was not the main-event of the evening, the top attraction was the Tag Team Championship match pitting titleholders, The Steiner Brothers, up against two of the three biggest names in the promotion, Sting and Lex Luger. In WWE, that would have signaled a major step down for the headliners, but WCW was a different environment. It was a big deal for Sting and Luger to be competing for the Tag titles. The match was one of the most epic bouts in history that was not exactly given the time to be epic. It was non-stop action for the duration of its 11-minutes and featured the kind of action and atmosphere expected from a major match. The Steiners were a very popular team, with Scott, particularly, offering an elite athletic foil to his renowned opponents. They collectively made it difficult to pick a side, so you found yourself just cheering for it continue. It was The Fast and the Furious of WCW matches €“ a decent story, but mostly just a quick hitting, wildly entertaining piece of work about a subject that you care about as a wrestling fan.
